Top 5 Asian Dresses for your Eid 2021 Celebration

Asian countries have always been famous for their rich culture and for the way they celebrate their countless festivals. Interestingly, for each festival or occasion, they have their specific set of traditional clothing ready that also have certain hidden relations to the theories behind those festivals. Asian dresses are very popular for their huge palette of colours, flattering silhouettes, and breath-taking work, such as hand embroidery, beadwork, prints, and patterns done on them.

History about the Asian Saree:

Dresses from Asian countries such as China, Japan, Vietnam, India, Pakistan, etc are famous for their own specific features. Some of the prominent dresses out of them are the elegant Sarees from India and, Salwar-Kameez sets from both India and Pakistan. The origin of a saree-like attire has been found as early as 2800 BC in the Indus Valley Civilization, in the northwest part of the then Indian subcontinent. Saree is basically an unstitched cloth, around 5 to 9 meters long and 24 to 47 inches wide; it is wrapped and draped around the waist over a base skirt called ‘petticoat’ in many different ways. In ancient times, cotton was widely used to make saree, and the pattern and prints were very basic without any heavy work on them. But as time passed by, people started to experiment more, combining different crafts and talents. Elite women, during the time of British rule, started to get stonework done on their sarees and that’s how the look of saree revolutionized over time.

History about the Salwar Kameez:

Now, talking about Salwar-Kameez, it has its own fan base. It came much later to the Indian subcontinent, with the arrival of Mughals in the 13th century in the north. It basically consists of a ‘Salwar’ which is similar to baggy pants with a lot of gathers but cuffed at the bottom and tied on the waist with a drawstring. With it, we have a ‘Kameez’, a long shirt having varying lengths. In India, the lengths of kameez are a bit shorter than in Pakistan. Nowadays, the kameez can be paired with palazzos, pants, sharara pants, and even skirts. We can find a whole range of Salwar-kameez for different occasions, be it casual wear, party wear, office wear, or festive wear.
We also have our widely worn, lehenga-choli sets consisting of beautiful blouses for the top combining with skirts for the bottom, either matching or contrasting. In the present times, Asian dresses are often fusion-ed with each other to get amazing outfits.
And now that we know enough of Indian and Pakistani traditional dresses, let us decide what to wear for our next big festival! Eid 2021!
